Der Roman hat mich durch eine emotionale Achterbahnfahrt getrieben.
Ich konnte mich sehr gut mit dem Protagonisten identifizieren, habe mit ihm gelitten, gebangt, mich aber auch gefreut.
Es gab unheimlich viele kleine Details, welche zusammen mit dem herausragenden Schreibstil diese Geschichte so grandios machen.
Tatsächlich eines der besten Bücher, die ich in den letzten Jahren gelesen habe.

this book was incredibly well-written, this coming of age story made me feel multiple facettes of emotions and manages to capture the bittersweet sensation of growing up. The author does a wonderful job playing with the pace of the book which can be slower or faster as the main character experiences multiple events.
i definitely recommend this book, my only issue with it was the lack of diversity (the story is set in a small town in misoury in the 80s). there is one important black character and he is immediately described so, on the contrary of the white characters, setting whiteness as the default.

Benedict Wells hat es wieder geschafft, mich komplett in eine andere Welt zu schicken.
Die Geschichte von Sam ist so traurig wie sie aufmunternd ist. Ich mag seinen jugendlich-unsicheren Charakter sehr gerne und auch die Menschen um ihn herum haben mich beeindruckt. Eine Geschichte packt mir wirklich, wenn ich die Personen darin sofort vermisse, wie hier der Fall. Großartig!
