would’ve been a 1 star if not for Rooney’s writing - one of the most insufferable stories I’ve ever read

I genuinely have never cried over a book before this one. 4 hours of reading and I feel less alone in the world. Others understand depression and worded it perfectly. This book is bound to be a modern classic.

I was expecting more, to be honest, while I liked the narration and the writing I hated the way dialogues where handled as a big monologue. Nevertheless I liked the exploration about Connell and Marianne's lives, personalities and relationship, I just was expecting for this book to be a favorite since it's so reverenced

Couldn’t put this down the writing style and story telling is captivating. However a very hopeless sad book.

I enjoyed the writing style, the depths of the characters, and some of the internal problems with which they grapple. Maybe upon reflection I’ll give this a higher rating, but I felt it was a little cringey at times.
