Everything I hoped it would be and more. Sad it's over, but can't wait to reread the series someday!

I liked the last third better than the rest, but this book was pretty long-winded and scattered. I think it probably lacked the editing the other books had - part of being a popular series.

I have a lot of thoughts about this book and the whole series. Someday I will write them all down.

DNF at 40 percent. Cannot take it anymore. I just want to know how they defeat the evil queen and how things end so I went online and read a full summary lol.

This is a case where the middle books are stronger than the first and last books. I suppose that’s kind of rare in a YA series, but I’m kind if annoyed by how… patchy this book feels. It kind of has this weird pacing that’s all over the place, and I think it’s because the author chooses to slow it down significantly after that exciting ending to book 3. Any time I feel like we’re finally going somewhere, she inserts all this teenage pining. I literally feel exhausted every time I have to sit through Winter and Jacin scenes. I don’t care much for Jacin though Winter seems like a decent girl on her own, but gawd, the two of them together makes me feel like I’m listening to something running around in circles on loop. Not that the guys and girls on Cinder’s side of things are any better. I have to remind myself they are teenagers and this is normal in YA, but honestly, considering the situation they are in, the war and bloodshed situation I mean, you would think there would be a greater sense pf urgency. Was it really necessary to put the romance— and there are four couples here, mind you— in the forefront at a time like that?

No!

But that’s just my opinion. I’m not against romance by any means, to be clear. My point is: there is a time and place for it. And maybe there is also a way to add it that doesn’t quite feel so in your face or overly… I dunno… Just piney and young love-y. Also, inserting it during a climax build up just throws things off.

Anyway, too bad.
