A Lock of Death is one of the darkest romances I’ve read. While many mafia-based romances tend to lean that way, this one dives straight into the deep end without looking back. There are also very few side characters to distract from the leads. They are put under a microscope for the reader to see, and all of their darkest sides are exposed.

Nine – known only by her number and never really by her name – was deeply traumatized by life. There were many things I never really understood about her at the beginning. Her past remains a mystery until the very end of the book, and when it’s finally revealed, I wish I had known it sooner. It would have made her a more sympathetic character. I would have fallen into her mindset and believed a little more readily.

Dimitri seemed to be your typical mafia sociopath through most of the book. He was a lot more extreme than most, but I pictured him as his family’s enforcer and all-around bad guy for the bad guys. He takes everything to the extremes and then takes it even further.

Don’t go into this book expecting any particular thing, because it will surprise you all along the way. Their journey together – both physical and emotional – was quite the rollercoaster and I found it fascinating.

I am sending my therapy bill to Bea because... she has raised my expectations in men for the past 6 books to an unrealistic standard. Like, how dare you, Beena?

This is a dark retelling story based on rapunzel, I really enjoyed reading this story, Dimitry and Nine's story is one you will enjoy. Their emotions, their interactions and the way they both have sparkling chemistry will have you reading this twisted version of Rapunzel. This story has all the emotional depth as well as drama, angst well balanced with all the secrets and twists. It's dark, tragic, and violent. You will find the characters were well developed and let me tell you I hope to read more by this author.

This author writes fucked up stories in which men are ruthless killers, women are unhinged and survivers (tw sa), the initial dynamic is fucked up and it never really changes, they simply become dark and codependent together. And I eat this shit up!!!

I have read stories that were more messed up for sure but this one is still not for the faint of heart. As I stated previously i would compare it to a K Webster novel.

At the end I didn't root for the relationship per se and I did not find the sex secne hot but I was deeply enthralled by this book. I liked the two main characters, their story, their dynamic, everything. I have to say thay when I first discovered this author this was the title with the tropes and the blurb that captivated me the most but I decided to read the previous books in order to acclimate me to this world. This book works really well as a standalone so you don't have to do as I have but I still found the progression usefull to getting used again to this level of darkness. (The cruel beauty series starts with a kidnapping but I've read so many reiterations of the beauty and the beast/captive mafia romances and it had so many tropes that are common in this kind of narrative that they didn't hit me very hard)

I recommend this book even just a standalone mafia/woman about to be sold/a captive road trip book but I want to say it again: it's dark. It's not cora reilly it's k webster.

It's my favourite from this author but it's fucked up and not a love story that I root for. It's also a slow burn (but the tension is there from the beginning)

Trigger Warnings SA (not the most detailed descriptions but the heroine has had a terrible life aince she was a child)

I seriously don’t think this author could ever go wrong with her writing. A Lock of Death was phenomenal. A spin on a the classic fairy tale Rapunzel with a dark and dirty twist. Be still my beating heart I am in love!!! Nine and Dimitri were flipping meant for one another like two halves to make a whole. They complete one another whole heartedly and their story was an absolute stunner. The chemistry these two have is seriously scorching and the angst if off the charts.. Its that kind of slow burn that builds in your belly and moves to consume your whole body. Once again I was captivated from the beginning of page one until the end. Beena Khan doesn’t disappoint that’s for sure. 1000% you need to read this book. Fantastic!!

I was interested in the story and concept but it was poorly written so I gave up.
