Slow and awkward. Which is a shame because I really wanted to love it

What a gem of a book. An innocent abroad! The 1950s have never looked so interesting.

I found this a bit of a slog, it took me months to read, but I got to the end and appreciated it so much in hindsight that I’ll likely plan to read it again. T

This book just makes me want to pack my bags and go somewhere to live like Sally Jay did, except for the losing a passport, friends and almost getting murdered part. Basically this book just makes me want to have fun.

I'm fairly certain I hate this book. It is the Zooey Deschanel of novels: a little too self-consciously clever and cute for its own good. Yawn. Pretension and ennui.

GIVEN UP ALMOST HALFWAY THROUGH. There's not enough time in the day for books you don't enjoy.
