Very of it’s time - written 1938. Two derogatory mentions of the word Jew to describe someone negatively which would never be allowed today nor, I suspect, within 7 years of the book being written as just prior to WWll

Is in the style of Mrs Dalloway (1925) by Virginia Woolf, the whole book being focused on 24 hrs in the life of one woman. This is more lighthearted however and no World War One references.

Very quick read. Well written. Tidy ending, no loose ends. Not much in the way of plot but not that kind of story.

A sociological look at class and society typical of the time. Would read again probably.

Not as fast as it might be, considering the action takes place over one day and is entirely madcap adventure. A charming but dated read.
