It ended so abruptly. The MMC is dealing with some hard stuff and the ending just didn’t seem believable. Then the epilogue took it too far. I enjoyed the story though up until about 85%.

I usually love Claire’s books, but this one didn’t click with me. There didn’t seem to be a real bond between Ryan and Nicole. They seemed to bind more over sex than anything substantial. I understand what it’s like to have clinical depression and the toll it can take on a relationship, but I guess it just really bothered me the way Nicole just kind of took Ryan’s mood swings and behavior. Even if she didn’t know about the depression, I still expected her to stand up for herself after her relationship with Jason imploded. It’s also annoying how involved and concerned his family seemed to be about his past behavior, but they left him alone to spiral for weeks. The epilogue also felt very strange to me, like that should have been a bonus epilogue a couple years in the future. Ryan still has work to do on himself so he doesn’t backslide as much as he did throughout the book.
