The hardest of the JLA books I've read. A lot of dark themes. Some disturbing content. A lot of significant plot movement for the larger narrative. It's definitely leaving me with strong suspicions for the end of the first series and next book of this one.

I usually enjoy the books in this series because of the cheesy romance but I really struggled to get through this one. This book is about main character, Sera’s, time spent under the captivity of the King of the Primals, Kolis, and it is pretty dark but also very drawn out with a lot of emotional suffering. I read books that are fun and entertaining and 80% of this book made me tense and anxious. I don’t enjoy that kind of reading experience so this has been my least favorite book of the series, but some people might enjoy exploring those other emotions.

a good amount of the book was rough to read because of everything Sera goes through but I found all the emotional processing around the traumatic events very relatable and well written

this was awful trauma porn. feel pretty tricked into reading this after the cozy romance of the previous 2 books, this was just as poorly written but the other got by on smut and vibes whereas this was just trauma

Seraphena is taken by Kolis. Who is an abusive, fucking pos. To say the least. I'd say the author wrote this book really carefully and managed to describe what these experiences are like.. Seraphena made me feel seen and loved and accepted. Through her words and eyes, I saw parts of me.. and I will never forget this character..
