As a cat mom who frequently and unapologetically calls my little one "Monkey," I have to say I almost squealed in the library when I saw this book on display. I quickly read it and had a significant emotional response with the final story. (I need that Mommy's Little Monkey needlepoint!)
Let me just bring this home so I can read it to my own Baby Monkey...

Loved this for late reader/early first chapter readers! I could watch Baby Monkey read books and redecorate his office all day.

Brian Selznick continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in children's books. His artwork, structuring, storytelling, and creativity are among my favorites.

This deceptively clever little collection of mystery stories was enjoyed equally by my kindergartner and 2nd grader. Having an adorable monkey as a protagonist doesn't hurt. We'll be going back to reexamine the illustrations in this one.

It is the shortest 191 paged book I've ever read. Fun though.

Prachtige tekeningen met originele omgevingen en paaseitjes voor slimmeriken.
Het voelde wel een klein beetje eentonig soms, maar ik ben geen kind dus dat kan ook daar aan liggen.

While it is possible to appreciate the adorable drawings and for young readers to enjoy the repetitive structure, this book's events completely lack causality. As an introduction to the detective or mystery genre, it fails to show the hero actually solving any mysteries.
