Intelligent political sci-fi. Good representation - women, queer, nonbinary, and neurodivergent characters. I especially appreciated that the "bad guys" were also well-rounded characters with understandable motives, not caricatures. And I thought the alien planet/1st contact aspect, while not the main focus, was unique and interesting. I'll read more from this author.

The book takes a while to get off the ground but wow once it reaches cruising altitude the plot, character motivations and world are realistic, fully realised and gripping. What really stands out is the detailed exploration of the politics of the world within a world that is the generation ship.
