Exciting ideas, but don't finish hooking me up to keep reading. It happens to me just like Jupiter's Legacy, and perhaps seeing so many similarities and nothing else that encourages me to stay with these graphic novels makes me see that the same is not for me. Saga has a similar art (sometimes too graphic), but with a story, world and characters far more charismatic than Mark Millar can create.

Something lost in the slightly too tidy resolution at the very end but this was great, scary fun. The art is excellent, the story-telling top notch with great curves and a genuine creepiness that worked on me. Looking forward to the next volume.

This comic reminded me a lot of Franco-Belgian comics, in particular the Sherlock Holmes comics I read a few years ago by [a:Sylvain Cordurié|1152914|Sylvain Cordurié|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png], namely [b:Sherlock Holmes and the Necronomicon|25893785|Sherlock Holmes and the Necronomicon|Sylvain Cordurié|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1442848382l/25893785._SY75_.jpg|45775846] & [b:Sherlock Holmes and the Vampires of London|18471619|Sherlock Holmes and the Vampires of London (Sherlock Holmes et les Vampires de Londres #1-2)|Sylvain Cordurié|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1403199402l/18471619._SY75_.jpg|26138172].

The style and the story are very similar. But I think The Magic Order is better executed. The story has a nice flow to it even though you're dropped in the middle of a setting without real introductions. The story fills in the blanks and the backgrounds as you go.

I wonder if Phil is in the Order?

Amazing illustrations and an enticing story. The ending totally got me, but made complete sense.
One gripe I have is that we’re told that these people defend us from monsters, but it seems like all of the conflict is going to be between these magic users? I want to watch people fight monsters for a little bit! Not each other.

Thank you to Edelweiss and Image Comics for the ARC.

I heard good things about this series, so I was excited to check it out. That excitement quickly evaporated as I realized how weak this actually was. Paper thin characters and an obvious betrayal twist you could see coming from a mile away. At this point, it’s like Millar has nothing fresh or new to offer. Almost every single one of his stories follows the same formula: semi-interesting premise, protagonist(s) who gets betrayed by an ally who’s secretly working with the villain, eleventh hour deus ex machina twist that allows the protagonist to defeat the villain. Rinse and repeat ad infinitum. The best thing about this was the art by Olivier Coipel. I’m glad I didn’t spend money on this.

Definitely loved most of this book! It was admittedly a bit fast paced and some things could have benefited from more time to develop, but I’m definitely interested in the world presented and looking forward to its continuation.

Art-wise definitely very well done.
