I felt I had to read this being a monarchist and having seen most of the Harry and Meghan stuff first hand and being absolutely horrified by it. The book was really interesting and informative it has made me see the entire situation in a different light and has really killed what little trust I had in the press and the ‘truths’ they tell

An honest, funny and moving account of Prince Harry’s life and the challenges that come with being the spare. I thought the book particularly picked up in the third section, talking about Meghan and recent events. Took me a while to get through but I ended up being very moved. Appreciated having an insight into a life completely different from my own.

Okay, first of all I listened to the audiobook because... Well... Who doesn't want to say a prince read them a story?

Anyway, parts of this were slow and I definitely found myself zoning out at times. Such is life though, being a prince doesn't exempt you from high and low points. But I guess that's the theme of the whole book isn't it? Even as a royal he didn't live some perfect life.

If you don't like memoirs, don't touch this book. If you do, then I'd say this is definitely a decent one.

Before reading the book proper, I had heard some excerpts of the audiobook and I think that the portions that got attention prove Harry's point about the tabloids and public scrutiny. He talks a lot about the heir/spare dynamic and how he was set up to be the clown of the family. Even when he tried to do something of substance, his past mistakes would be brought up to discredit him and make him a joke. So part of revealing the embarrassing, fascinating stories is to signal to the British press that they cannot blackmail him since he divulged them on his terms.

After reading the Britney memoir, I thought May as well read the OTHER most talked about memoir from this year, and I thought it might be similar to Britney's in that most of the WTF moments would have been covered already in the press. But no! TOO MUCH WTF TO BE HAD HERE.

Now, obviously, Harry is still going to have his blind spots, and therapy at this stage will have only unraveled so much (since there is SO, SO MUCH to unravel), but he does try to be fair about himself and the circumstances in which he was raised. It really does say a lot that him being sent to an active war zone during his military service felt like a welcome break from his usual life.

Anyway, I'm definitely no royalist, but I've often thought that the life must be strange to experience, no matter how close to wearing the crown you are, and this book confirmed that. It's definitely worth a library read.
