I love the story of Willow and Caz and the Journey they are taking us through. In this first book Willow is on earth when she finds out from a physic she will never find love in this world. Not only that she is still grieving her missing brother. Everything is just blah for her. Then you have Caz who is in the land of Vakeeli and the Monarch of Blackwater, and he is just done with living. Until one day they begin to hear each other thoughts and their connection grows, because they are fated mates with a cold tether that is so RARE. Somehow Willow is transported through this portal to this realm and the adventure starts there... and I loved the ride. Remember everyone can not be trusted. Envy is a bitch! You would think a love bond was great but not when it could cost you your life. Read it!!! I love everything. Short chapters. World building was easy to follow. Great start for a beginner fantasy reader. It was low spice that came near end. My head is full with everything I'm learning in this world. Gave me all the feels.

I loved Caz and Willow. The only thing that would have made this book a 5 star is us getting more development between them. It felt like they liked each other randomly. I am okay with insta love so it wasn’t a big problem. Caz’s family is so funny and I loved them as well.
The plot twist at the end with Manx was absolutely crazy.
I accidentally spoiled myself, but I was shocked either way. As someone who struggles with high functioning depression, it was interesting to see the characters have thoughts I have had recently and in the past. I would have liked a deeper look into it, but I liked what was given.  I am so excited for the next book!

Honestly, I had no idea what was going on in this world and everything was just a ploy for them to have sex. All of the lore and world-building was just to show that they were supposed to be in love but NONE of their actions or words proved it like they could not be further from soulmates. I also just didn't love any characters and there were so many unnecessary politics.

The writing was good at least but I didn't like anything else. I might give the author another try but this fantasy romance wasn't for me.

This had so much potential. Loved the idea and loved the setting. If you liked House of Bane and blood this is sort of similar steam punk, fantasy vibes. It is spicy as well. However I felt it was a bit predictable and I’m not sure I’m that motivated to read the rest of the series. Didn’t love the FMC either.
