Although in the beginning, I found it a little difficult to follow the plot; however, once I got into the story, it became a lot easier to follow. The character of Sabriel herself is a little difficult to connect with; she almost feels like an untouchable character in her authority, which she commands from such a young age. Once Sabriel leaves the school to fight against demons, that's when the story really takes off and sweeps you away into its wonderful word. At that point, I found it hard to put it down. Mogget the Cat is such an interesting addition to the story and I couldn't quite work out which side he was on until Touchstone came into the story. And my god, did things really change from then. Instantly there was this insane attraction which was written in such a believable way that I almost felt proud (which is a little odd, really). Upon discovering the tragic past that had spurred on these events, I raced through the rest of the book to the jaw-dropping end. I loved it, every chapter of this book.

Sabriel really feels like a summary of itself. To describe the events of the book is to lay out a traditional but very aesthetic fantasy romp. To read it, unfortunately is to watch characters make narrative leaps with almost no prompting.
