A fun take on the nursery rhyme but reading this book dragged on and was rather uninteresting.

“No real trying is ever in vain.”

4.5 stars! Louisa May Alcott never fails to deliver. Her characters are always SO loveable, and their growth is always so evident and well done. I don’t know why I didn’t read this sooner. I’m just weird :/

This book was a childhood favorite. I found it online for my Kindle for free. Was it old fashioned? Sentimental? Preachy? yes, but I still shed a tear and enjoyed it. Not for all readers, but I enjoyed the nostalgia.

Like all of Alcott's children books, there is plenty of female moral superiority and male sheepish bad behavior, but the early parts, when Jack and Jill's characters and friendship are revealed, is touching and still holds up well today.

It's a bit too religious to my taste, but I like Louisa's writing. It is fascinating to see the themes much better dealt with in Little Women series.

Excellent story about self-improvement and friendship in the face of trials and illness. But it manages to be so bright and cheery throughout!
