This series is a favorite because of the growth of the characters, the versatile plots, small town feel and the trials of running the sheriff department. I recommend this series.

I'd have given this one 4 stars, except that the crimes are gratuitously gruesome, in my view. That's pretty much true of the entire Joanna Brady series, compared to the good old boy J.P. Beaumont series. Nevertheless, I've gotten hooked, due to the characteristic Jance character development. You really come to know and appreciate the main characters, and you want to find out what happens to them next, and to live with them through their joys and their sorrows.

Now that I live in Arizona, Joanna Brady mysteries are even better. Although the mystery in this book is kind of basic, all the goings on with Joanna and her daughter, Joanna and Butch, and Marianne and Jeff's family really tugged at my heart strings.

Another good Sherriff Joanna Brady story. I love her growth and watching her mature. Great plot and good police work…
