When Laurie, a little boy, comes home from school, he always has a story to tell, about Charles, a naughty trouble maker in his class.
His parents are enjoying them and are eager to meet Charles's mother in the next parent-teacher meeting. That end was awesome!

Read with book group but would be a fun book to read to students as well. A short story. Laurie goes to kindergarten and comes home the first month reporting about the terribly behaved Charles......

It's Shirley Jackson, so it was obviously wonderfully written!
But I found the story predictable, so that reduced the impact of the twisted ending a bit for me. Or maybe the twist was not supposed to be a twist, it was just for us to observe how parents easily judge and blame other parents for their children's behaviour, not knowing or understanding the psychology of their own child.

Funny little story albeit predictable. However I'm sure everyone can relate to this in some way. Charles is a very naughty boy!
