London during the Blitz. This was an interesting view of the role of Americans in Britain before the US joined the war.

As always, the author beautifully captures the spirit of the times where her story is set. She has created in Maudie Dobbs a wonderful heroine. Were she real, I would love to call her friend. Winspear has never disappointed me in any of her books, and her streak continues with this time. This is truly a well written tale that will enthrall the reader and make them anxious for the next installment.

The heaviness of the Blitz permeates the story, bringing a sense of those weighty weary days. Thankfully it’s lifted by love, in Maisie’s life and elsewhere.

Top Maizie Dobbs form again-I love this series and the details about WWII and nightly bombings make our current situation seem like nothing!

One of the best recent installments in this series for sure. I loved seeing Maisie's relationships with those around her continue to develop, especially as the war complicates life for everyone. The examination of America's isolationist politics before they were dragged into the war was interesting and informative. I look forward to the next book to see how Maisie & Mark's relationship grows.
