A must read. This was one of the few on Wattpad that I can actually call a book rather a story, and it was a spectacular one at that. I had to take a hiatus from Lilly's antics for a while so I could finish the rest of the book in one go, and I was not disappointed!

I received a copy from the author, in exchange for an honest review.

Actual Rating: 3.25

This was a good read. It was a long book. It had a lot of comedy, but it did tend to drag in the middle portion of the book. I think the length and pacing of the book is what lowered the rating for me. I think the series is interesting. Just thought that it could have taken the unnecessary parts out.

The last chapters were the most interesting. The characters were good. I liked Lily. I thought that she was headstrong and funny. I thought Rikkard Ambrose was interesting. I really enjoyed his character development. Overall, an okay read.

Thank you so much to [a:Robert Thier|6123144|Robert Thier|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1494148521p2/6123144.jpg] for providing me a free copy of your book in exchange for an honest review!

‘Chains of gold are still chains, Mr Ambrose. I want to decide what to do with my life.’

I'm in a huge mess right now.
I'm not a fan of reading either my phone or my computer but I decided to change that just during May and check out this book set in the Victorian era (the one I'm just studying right now in my career)...

So this is how I'm feeling right now.

The story follows Lilly Linton, a 19 year-old girl living in 1839 in London, a place where women have no political rights and are not allowed to vote or even to work. This strong girl tried (and failed) to vote for the first time dressing in men's clothes, and in the meantime he met him.
Mister Rikkard Ambrose.
Thinking she was a man, he offered her a job as his secretary... and for Lilly that means freedom.
Because she does NOT want to get married and have to depend on a man for her living. She is a proud suffragette and a feminist, and every time a man showed up in her life she hit min with her parasol.
The exception to that rule is Mr Ambrose, since she got the secretary post but for a price: she would have to dress up in men's clothes.
That man is like a combination of Mr Darcy and Christian Grey but waay meaner. The way he was bossing her around and not wanting to accept she was a girl has been driving me crazy for the last week. On another note, she created a lot of nicknames that went well with his personality and phisicaly form. These are my faves:

Mr Cold Masculinity Ambrose
Mr Rich-and-Mysterious Ambrose
Mr Haughty Almighty and Annoyingly Handsome Ambrose
Mr Stoneface Ambrose
Mr Silent and Sullen Ambrose
Granite Face Ambrose
Mr Granite-Face All-Businesslike Ambrose
Mr Save-time-or-die Ambrose
Mr Arrogant-Stone-Face Ambrose
His Mightiness Mr Ambrose the Cold and Terrible

There are so many more and every single one made me laugh so much!!
The way Robert Thier wrote this amazing story had me in a cliffhanger after every single chapter. I loved Lilly's thoughts regarding love, secret affairs and very dangerous missions. She is definetly one of mu favourite female characters and I believe every single girl has an inner femminist in her mind.
Of course, my favourite parts were those where Mr Ambrose was present. I was reading all those parts like...

I mean, they were so romantic (well, not really, but they were for me) I was in awe all the time. He might be bossy but sometimes some very special moments might slip some time, specially when they were together searching for the stolen file and most of the credit went to her. Her sarcasm and thoughts were awesome every time and I felt so idetified with her because sometimes I behave like that. (Warning: do not open the spoiler if you haven't read the book).
SpoilerBut why was it totally necessary to torture me for more than 300 pages to give me the most beautiful kiss I've ever read combined with Cassandra Clare's, E. L. James' and Jennifer Armentrout's way of writing kisses so then I had to stand for the last 200 pages that Mr Ambrose denied that beautiful moment ever happenned and that Lilly spent all the time wondering if that moment ever happenned or if it was just a dream? WHYYYYYYY?????

I finished the book last night in such a rush because I needed to know if they got the file, if they were able to escape from the evil's lair
SpoilerI knew from the very first moment it was Lord Dalgliesh the evil man behind all of it, never trust a man who knows how to fake a smile

and then the words THE END showed up with no head's up.
What?????
Why???
Why that horrible ending???
I was staring at my phone with no emotions at all!!!!
And it's taken me three hours to write this review because it all hurts and because I had to run and find the second part so then I would be able to breath again!!!!!

It's really hard to find such a story that didn't let me breathe while reading it but I think I have found it. I am now asking to all the world: READ THIS NOW!!!! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!!

Years later and it's still a five star read.
