I am genuinely surprised that this is this authors debut. I have read two of her books in her other series but just recently came across this one and I am so glad that I did.

There are so many mafia type romance books out there and most of them are along the same theme, but not Embrace the Darkness. First of all it’s the Irish Mafia not the Italian and I freaking love that. Though we do get glimpses of both the Italian Mafia and Colombian Mafia, and I’m greedy and hope she writes series for these as well because I already love those characters from the little we do see.

Back on track though. I devoured this book. I was in the mood for a dark romance and that’s exactly what I got with so much more I wasn’t expecting. I love this authors writing style and the main character Maura is a freaking joy to read. Her humor and sass makes me love her even more. The author did an amazing job fleshing out her character and really makes you feel everything along with Maura and considering the topics in this book those emotions were very strong at points. I absolutely loved seeing such a strong take no shit kind of female in a mafia world. Even after all the shit she’s been through she doesn’t let any of it hold her back.

This book is single pov in Maura’s perspective. It is MFM but we don’t really get much of that until book two, though there is definitely steam, and it has the childhood friends to lovers trope. Pretty much all the things I love in a book. 😂

I definitely recommend this one if you love a strong female lead in a male dominated world. Keep in mind this is a dark romance and it is very violent, gory, and emotional. Also, if you love morally grey characters this is the one for you. But if you’re into that sort of thing like me, I think you’ll love it!

Reasons to read:
- Strong AF heroine in male dominated world
- Steamy 🔥
- Friends to lovers trope
- Mini age gap (4 years)
- MFM
- Morally Grey characters

I was unsure about this one when I picked it up, but this book exceeded my expectations. The characters are wonderful and I find myself far too attached to them already. I just finished the second book which was equally as wonderful.

Does anyone know if this is going to be turned into an audiobook?

This book was amazing! I found it while just searching through kindle, and it did not disappoint! It is full of murder, and more illegal things! I wish there was a movie!

I am officially obsessed with this book! I fell for it within a few pages and fell hard! What a breath of fresh air! So intriguing, intense, and sucks you in! Maura, the main Character, is so dark and honest, I just love it. Unlike anything else I have read and so so good. Pick it up, give it a try, you won't regret it! So looking fwd to book 2 as I sit here and daydream (let's be honest, and drool) about all the hunky men surrounding Maura in all her crazy.

Exceptional

My oh my. I was hooked from page 1. Which honestly shouldn’t surprise me because WITSEC owns a part of my soul, so why did I expect the Maura Quinn series to be any different?

Maura Quinn. You beautiful, psychotic woman. She definitely has a few screws loose, but I loved every second of it. Seeing her constantly outwit and easily read all of the Mafia men that surrounded her (of course there were a few she couldn’t read as easily) was very interesting to read. I’m glad she wasn’t your typical mafia princess. She was just as crazy and smart as the men which she proved every chance she got.

Now her love life. I’m interested in where Ashley is going to take this honestly. MF? MFM? RH? Maura’s got her thing going on with Jamie (loved him and his Alphaholeness), but there are about three other men I could potentially see Maura connecting with - if you catch my drift.

If you’re looking for a dark mafia romance where the mafia princess is more likely to out-crazy everyone in the room, then go ahead and add Embrace the Darkness to your TBR.

I'll admit I don't usually pick up mafia/mob books with a lot of enthusiasm. I'm not a big fan of THAT type of "dark" romance because the alpha males and demure princesses make me roll my eyes.

But y'all. That was NOT this book. After the first chapter I was a goner. I knew this was going to be a 5 star read and I was NOT disappointed.

Holy shit.
