Sommige personages waren zo ontzettend verschrikkelijk. Zo. Ontzettend. Verschrikkelijk.

good book if you're into drag/ lgbtq+ characters, but YA isn't my favourite genre anymore

Overall, a pretty good book. I felt it displayed drag in an interesting way, and the author's display of differing pronouns for the drag kings & queens was really fascinating. Although I found myself disliking the main character at times, I feel that is what the author intended, and the ending brought me back around to liking him.

Full disclosure: not being a Massive Fan Of Drag has been one of my greatest shames as a young lgbt myseld. Obviously, I have immense admiration for the artistry, talent, and sheer confidence of drag artists (I'm a self taught sort of seamstress and trust me, making any kind of costume will always be the hardest thing!!) But this book has has finally DRAGged me into the wonderful world!!! I've been coming up with drag names and binging RuPauls and trying to find local drag events since finishing it. And it's an especially poignant story as its told from someone who's going through something the exact same as me right now: applying to universities, and dealing with rejection from said unis. There are some parts of this book that have genuinely changed the way I see the world and my own future and I will definitely be using it as a crutch to help me through the next few months and years of my life. I already miss the lovable characters who's support and encouragement filled my heart. This book is SUCH an uplifting read that had me going from laughter to tears in a matter of seconds!! It has a beautiful romance that builds tension like nothing before while also touching on the toxicity of how some lgbt relationships can go sour, the gravity of being out in highschool and dealing with the accompanying homophobia, the complexities of parental support and concern for their lgbt kids AND the highs and lows of friendships during the most difficult time of a teenagers life while trying to navigate universities ect. So gratful that it has provided me with basically a guide on how to expand my own identity as a queer person and how to explore my LGBT community. I was wary of it because I didn't know anything about drag, but it is the perfect introduction and I will be reccomending it to EVERYONE!
