“Don’t you get it yet? Whether it’s at first, or second, or in the outfield. No matter where I kiss you, Wren, I’m already home.”

So much fun! Witty, charming, hilarious Swing and a Mishap knocks perfect rom-com combo of heat, heart and humor out of the park. We met most of these quirky characters in Kiss My Putt but personally I thought Wren and Shepherd's story is so much better. I instantly connected from page one and enjoyed every moment. Now I'm really looking forward to the girls' friend Emily's story in the third installment in First and Tension.

Swing and a Mishap (Summersweet Island 2) by Tara Sivec
Second in a Related Series. Romantic Comedy.

I loved Kiss My Putt, but I LOOOVED Swing and a Mishap by Tara Sivec! The second book in the Summersweet Island Series brought us a completely swoonworthy, romantic and sexy hero, an outrageously fun group of friends, a wonderful single mom, and more fun from the whole crew on Summersweet Island.

Wren is Birdie’s (from Kiss My Putt) older sister. She is a single mom with a talented son who plays high school baseball. Unfortunately his sperm-donor is a rich douchebag and is mostly out of the picture unless he wants to insult Wren a little. Wren runs the local ice cream stand, the Dip and Twist, with her mom, and when she was in high school a young Shepherd worked there as well before getting recruited as a major-league baseball player.

When Shepherd sees his high-school crush post a video of her son playing baseball on facebook, he messages Wren some pointers for him and they begin a year-long messaging relationship. Texting/messaging is my #1 favorite thing in a book, and Swing and a Mishap had tons. I loved their banter and how she pretended to not know anything about baseball or his career.
“That woman has more T-shirts, hoodies, and jerseys with your name on the back than anyone else I know, watches every single game like it’s a religious experience, and God forbid any of us interrupt her while you’re playing.”

But suddenly Shepherd ghosted Wren and stopped responding to all messages.

A year later, the famous player decides to come back home to Summersweet Island to claim what he should have claimed a year ago. But Wren won’t let him off the hook that easy!
“This is just great. Perfect! Shepherd Oliver, another pile of human garbage I have to deal with.”

I loved how Shepherd joined right in with the gang and became great friends with Palmer and Bodhi. I loved how he had no fear of doing anything “girly” like glitter and crafts. I love how he is ridiculously sweet and romantic, and I loved how he was with Wren’s son. But he had a lot to make up for.
“I deserve better than being someone’s fucking consolation prize, no matter how goddamn good he is with a glue gun.”

Shepherd has loved Wren forever, and I loved how he had no hesitation with telling her and showing her.
“You’re the only reason I’ve tried to be nicer, kinder, sweeter, and better, so that some day when I pulled my head out of my ass, I would be worthy of the time you give to me.

Likes:

  • •I literally hugged my kindle with a tear rolling down my face at the end.

  • •Tons of messaging banter.

  • •I read the whole thing with an idiotic smile on my face.

  • •He was so great with her son.

  • •Shepherd was so romantic! Sigh….dreamy.

  • •Very light on angst, but enough to keep it interesting.

  • •Vanilla Ice Cream! OMG, HOT!

  • •I love the gang so much! Tara has a way of making me want to meet and hang out with all the characters in her books. (Hence the reason I started Wicked Book Weekend).

  • •More of Bodhi!

  • •Tara mentioned Jack Carter, the original baseball hottie from Jenn Sterling.

Dislikes:

  • •I don’t know if this is a real dislike, but is there not a Bodhi book? He at least needs a novella!
  • *Note: A little birdie may have granted my wish!

The Down & Dirty:

I loved Swing and a Mishap SO MUCH. It was just what I needed to forget the world and laugh my ass off. This is up there with my favorite Tara Sivec reads, and that’s saying a lot. If you are looking for a swoony, sweet, romantic, funny and sexy story with characters you can’t help but love, Tara Sivec took a swing and hit it out of the park with Swing and a Mishap.

"He definitely wants to put his bat in her grassy infield"

Rating: 5 Stars, 4 Heat

Swing and A Home Run!

Swing And A Mishap is a brilliantly funny, heartwarming, hot as hell book that is bursting at the seams with romance. It’s redolent with details that make it a real pleasure to sink yourself into, such as Wren’s masterful yet casual handling of the high school ball practice, that hot night at the Dip and Twist, to the incredible first date of Shepherd and Wren.

Shepherd Oliver is the swoony, dirty-talking, romantic, man of your dreams. He will create Pinterest-worthy dates and craft his heart out for the love of his life, Wren. Shepherd has loved Wren forever and his declaration was the most beautiful thing I’ve read about long-wished-for love in ages.

Wren Bennett is the kind, dedicated, long-suffering, heroine who finally becomes the badass you’ve always wanted her to be and starts taking names and flipping bats. The way she first reacts to Shepherd showing up and then finally to her son, Owen’s, father Kevin was truly perfect. Wren didn’t need to be saved but it was beautiful that she finally had the backup she deserved.

Summersweet Island is a place I wish really did exist. I wish I was a permanent resident so I could complain about the tourists and know all the secret spots and the great places to eat. It’s a place where the people know everyone’s business but they’ve all got your back when you need it.

I absolutely loved Swing and A Mishap as much as Shepherd loves Wren and Wren loves Shepherd and purple roses. I can’t wait for Emily’s book: First and Tension.

Swing And A Mishap is about:
✔ A newly retired pro baseball player
✔ A single Mom with a beautiful and kind heart
✔ A small island off the shore of Virginia called Summersweet Island
✔ A second chance romance
✔ Coming home to find the love you’ve always been looking for
✔ A fairytale romance with unicorns and glitter and Lisa Frank stickers
✔ A follow up to Kiss My Putt but can be read as a standalone

This one was slightly better than the first in the series, but there were a ton of similarities. As with the first, the spice is nice.

This book made me laugh out loud. I love the banter and the fact that Wren is pissed and no matter how much she wants to be nice & forgive Shepherd, when she opens her mouth, she insults him.
I just love the characters that Tara creates and I know I’m going to end up giggle my when I pick up her books.

This series is just sports romcom perfection. It takes me away to my happy place. The gang of characters are lovable and endearing. Who doesn’t want to live on an island like theirs?! The hero is a newly retired professional baseball player. The heroine is a single mom. She helps run her family’s ice cream stand. I enjoyed their story. The message banter between these two is to die for. Next book please.

I voluntarily read an early copy.

This was my first Tara Sivec book! I really enjoyed her writing style! This definitely won't be my last book I read by her!

This book was full of hysterical witty conversations, lots of banter, and a close-knit small town that was very protective.

“Whether it’s at first, or second, or in the outfield. No matter where I kiss you, Wren, I’m already home.”

Wren is a single mom pouring everything she has into her teenage son, Owen. Taking on the role of both a mom and a dad! She even helps coach his baseball team!
Olvier is now an exbaseball player after he suffers a season-ending injury that removes him from the league! He's now back home on Summersweet Island coming to terms with the fact that he's alone, without a family and the one woman he's loved since he was 13!
Wren has been in love with Oliver for as long as she can remember. He was an outgoing jock and always surrounded by people, the exact opposite of her. He was someone she never thought she could have!
Little did she know Oliver felt the same way about her. And now that he's back in town after ghosting her years ago, he's determined to win her trust back and make sure she knows exactly how he feels about her!

Things I loved:

That Wren gave Oliver hell the second she knew he was back in town!

“This is just great. Perfect! Shepherd Oliver, another pile of human garbage I have to deal with.”

Oliver confessing his love for Wren!

"She’s mine. She’s been mine since the first day I met her"

"-Wren: It’s only been fifteen minutes since I left you. You already have our date planned?

-Random Guy I Kissed: Sweetheart, I’ve been planning our first date since I was thirteen years old. Brace yourself. I plan on burning you a compilation CD with all the best O-Town songs I illegally downloaded from the internet. I’m gonna page my bros on their beepers so I can give them the 4-1-1, and then I’m gonna log onto MySpace and pick out just the right profile song to convey my feelings. I’ll probably kiss you under the moonlight while Enya plays in the background. Other than that, you’re just gonna have to be surprised. I’ll pick you up at 7.

-Wren: I can’t believe I thought I was the weird one."
