A very thorough and well documented look into the fascinating life and person of Rasputin. I enjoyed this book greatly and the ways that the author debunked a lot of the famous mythology surrounding Rasputin.

I won't give away any spoilers, but this book ruined by fantasies of the magical borderline immortalness surrounding Rasputin's death. But on the other hand, added all sorts of other debaucherous tidbits I never knew about the man, as well as demythized the most raunchy tales.

This was pretty okay, but may be more for the student of Russian history. For me, it was more difficult to follow all the Russian names and personal histories than reading Tolstoy. I don't mean to say that there are too many people involved to keep track of, just that the book is so long, and I, not too interested, failed to stay engaged.

Very slow paced in parts and quite repetitive on some aspects, yet it was quite good at delving you into the world of Rasputin at times where there weren't too many names that were introduced in such quick succession without reminders later on that you had to keep flicking through or pausing to quickly google.
