The narrator for this audiobook was quite simply painful, like a robot that has been given some basic expressive parameters. There were some phrases that made my head spin, they were spoken with such wrong emphasis.

Otherwise, I think I’m going to continue on with this series. For the most part they are solid introductions to each person, with a decent amount of historic context. This one is no exception. FDR is painted as an optimistic, happy-go-lucky child of privilege. Very little seems to stand in his way once he has determined his path to the presidency. Some of this attitude persists as president when he pushes forth his agenda and manages to be elected to a fourth term.

FDR’s flaws are not hidden, either. His marital infidelities and difficulties with race relations are examined as well as his good intentions.
