If I haven't said it before, let me just say that I LOVE Emily Mcintire's books! I think I'll be reading anything that she writes. I absolutely loved Yasmin and Julian/their relationship! And I adore how Emily ties so many Easter eggs from the story she was inspired by (in this case Aladdin) throughout her books! I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves modern fairytale retellings/inspired books.

Tropes/Vibes:

Good smut. Meh plot, but only because most of it was predictable after reading Hooked, which was disappointing to me. I hope it's just a coincidence that the first two books I picked up in this series copy and paste some of the same story beats,
namely in the third act. Like, come on, the mildly insane and bloodthirsty assistant backstabs MMC to work with the enemy, kidnaps FMC and brings her to a warehouse to lure the MMC there, where they have a grossly outnumbered fight that the MMC+FMC will obviously win (though someone on their side will sustain a grevious gunshot wound and it will be a question whether or not they survive -- but they will, don't worry), and at some point the FMC is the one to literally pull the trigger on an old relationship that's trying to hold her back.

This book gets props for showing an emotionally abusive parent to an adult child. I actually wish the physical child abuse had not been included; it felt like it was there to justify the MMC
cutting off his mom in the end, as a big character development moment
, when in my opinion, he had the grounds to do so just based on the level of emotional manipulation. (Plus the level of physical abuse was absurd -- like, comically evil. It could've at least been more subtle.) It would have been nice for the mother to be strictly an emotionally abusive parent, but keep the same level of "you didn't deserve how she treated you" from the FMC and keep the resolution.

A villainous twist on Aladdin, but it fell kind-of flat for me.

Yasmine is the only daughter of a very wealthy man, but now her father is ill and wants to find her a husband to help run the business after he's gone. Julian, his righthand man, would love to be taking the helm and even though he and Yasmine are enemies, he has a plan that might help them both.

I wasn't terribly invested in these characters. Yasmine once had a crush on Julian, but now she hates him and he apparently hates her. Enemies to lovers with some killing on the side.

The most realistic in this series. The timeline makes much more sense and their relationship feels more believable than some of the others.
