Robinson Crusoe is auch an ass. How can he take another slave after being one himself?
Also i wish he wouldn’t jump around in his story telling so much. And I wish we would’ve been able to see more of how he actually survived there. Somehow he had a million tree trunks that he was just planting everywhere. He was sick once and never got hurt..

no. 16 of 100 for the essential novels list my friend is having me do

Don’t judge a 17th century book by 21st century standards. I mean I did, the entire time I was reading, because how can you not compare the two eras, but I also kept thinking about how exciting this novel must have been when it was first published.

1.5/5. I'm sorry. I didn't like it when I was 10. My dad liked it when he was my age. I didn't like it bc I thought that it was depressing and it the book had only like 5% dialogs and rest of the book was 3rd person description. And I hate that. I acuatly read this book 2 times, bc I was just like: no, it is good I'm just not in the mood for reading. But I was wrong. I still didn't like the book at all. But I am wanting to read it again, bc I am 3 years older now and mby and also hopefully I like it more.

I had high hopes for the book, but in the end, I just wasn't a fan of Robinson. If anyone deserved the many setbacks he encountered, he was definitely the guy.

He did indeed overcome many obstacles and it is commendable to illustrate that accomplishment. But his poor treatment of the native people along with his inability to be content with any situation left me feeling that he deserved every bit of it.

But, maybe that was the point. Maybe the recap is that an insufferable & discontent individual will run into many avoidable obstacles.

I know that it is an important early novel, but man I didn't like it. The assumptions of Black and indigenous people's place in the world is awful. It is very religious and later in the book Robinson Crusoe becomes a messiah like figure, "If I save/redeem your life, you must obey me in all things and be my servant for all time" and the people he makes this coercive bargain with are all to happy with it. None of them take it in the moment, and later say, "hey, that wasn't fair to hold my life hostage until I agreed to your terms. Lets renegotiate something a bit more equal."
1.5 stars because I know it is "important literature."
Also, everything must be repeated three times at minimum. "I plan to do A. I am doing A. Now that I have done A, I realize that it could have been done more efficiently by doing B along with A. Now that everything is done, I will reflect on the spiritual meaning on A."

Nawet nie tyle, że książka jest źle napisana, tylko po prostu jest nudna. Już dawno nie czułam, żeby jakikolwiek tekst wyssał ze mnie całą inspirację i chęć do czegokolwiek, jak to.

3/5 ⭐ I really liked it! The start when he was traveling was really interesting, I really liked the parts when he had a lot of adventures.

At the start when he came to the island I was really bored, but then more stuff started going on and I really enjoyed that.

In this book you can really see how a person starts to appreciate they're live, when they come to a situation like this. After all very fun and interesting read.
