[Spoilers for this and Désirée's Baby !]

I'm not sure if this story would have roped me in as much as it did if I hadn't read it after Désirée's Baby. With these two making up all the Kate Chopin I've read, I was expecting this one to also end in tragedy. It didn't. Quality non depressing short story.

There were French lines here and there so I found it was best to read it in front of my PC so I can translate it with Google's help right away. :D

I'm sorry, but... what was this? Like, maybe I'm just missing the point but I don't understand why Athénaise suddenly realised she loves her husband after all? I didn't feel like there was a real build-up there. And I had to read a summary to even figure out she was pregnant because I missed that one sentence in the original.

Eh, anyway. I guess I'll find out in class maybe.

Athenaise is regretting her marriage to Cazeau, despite the fact that he has given her no cause to be regretful. With the aid of her brother, she escapes to New Orleans. After a month's time, she must make a decision.

This is a story that requires the reader to fill in some blanks.
