Reading this book is like glimpsing a soiled pile of clothes.

P.S. It’s times like these I realize we are desensitized.

Dark and stormy…

Great story and action. Starts with a sunny, promising day by the seaside, but things get real dark real fast. A nice use of the trope of the right person accidentally grabbing a supernatural weapon to defend themself and becoming a bad a$$ - iron willed warrior. This story is as much an action tale as anything else, and I liked the fun twist (or two) at the end.

Bonus interview with Joe Hill at the end of the book.

Gritty and gruesome, run through with threads of dark humor and featuring a horror heroine to root for at the center of the story, this comic is a wild ride. Taking a wild premise and running with it, Basketful of Heads is a gripping tale of small town corruption, revenge, and one young woman's fight for survival and answers.

Heck yeah! What a gruesomely fun and horrific story! A bloody blend of intrigue, mystery, magic, and thriller! I love that the first few pages don’t reveal exactly who is going to be wandering around with, well, a basketful full of heads and a bloodied axe. It’s a pleasantly brutal surprise once we learn which character the story is really going to revolve around. I really appreciate the female characters in this story and some of the role reversals we see that make this story unique in the horror genre.

This was highly entertaining and if definitely recommend reading if you like short, self-contained, and satisfying horror stories~

I have been given an arc of this title from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Just what I expected from Joe Hill. A perfect story, the small inconstancies with the art didn't even bother me.

June has gone to visit her boyfriend who has spent the summer as a cop in a small beach town. But when a group of criminals escape her boyfriend Liam is taken by them. With the help of a Viking ax June goes out to find her boyfriend before it's too late. With her basketful of heads she finds out that Brody Island has a few secrets too many secrets. Including a dead girl, missing money and drug trafficking.

Kinda meh tbh for me. Art was cool and a couple of story beats were interesting enough, but the undercover cop reveal thing didn't do much for me. I think I just didn't like the protagonist a whole lot.
