If knowing someone makes that person stay with you forever, not knowing someone does the same trick: death does not take the dead away; it only makes them grow more deeply into you.

A short but beautiful story about motherhood, family, and self-love. I would actually love to read a longer version of this and to follow Auntie Mei on her journey of self-discovery.

Man, Yiyun Li even excels at short stories; this one packs a great but quiet blow, if that makes sense.

short story that easily could have become a novella. auntie mei was equal parts traditional, dryly humorous and wise. i would love to read more about her and felt like the ending was a bit abrupt but still effective.

It's a wonderful story told in a unique style. Aunt MEI is amazing. But I felt that the story ended abruptly. I was expecting more
