Really enjoyed the final book of this trilogy. Like I said for A Thousand Pieces of You, this is the most exciting series I've read by Claudia Gray. It's also incredibly imaginative, pulling on a lot of favourite tropes while blending them epically together to give us a tale of multi-verse travel and some great love and action! (This is definitely not my best review btw.)

Review after re-reading:

Marguerite’s intelligence and perseverance shown through her quickly adjusting to new universes and her ability to survive constant deadly situations, (even putting herself in them to protect her other selves), never got old throughout the whole trilogy.

This book was so action-packed; there were so many new universes, so many dangerous situations, tension ran high!

There were many universes where Marguerite had to save that dimension’s Marguerite from Wicked trying to kill them. There was an adorable dimension where Paul and Marguerite were already married and had a baby. Marguerite even went back to the Triadverse where Theo killed himself and Conley in a car crash so Conley couldn’t do anything more to hurt Marguerite, which was sad, despite all he’d done.

But, the most interesting universe and highlight of this book had to be the Cloneverse, hands down. Seeing so many Marguerite’s interacting was mind-bogglingly amazing and interesting.

——

Ending a series you love is always sad, even if it isn’t the first time. This was no exception.

Paul and I are creating a world, side by side, day by day. We have no idea what our future holds, only that we are making it together. And we’re going to make it beautiful.

(I gave this four stars on Romantic Times Book Reviews:

This thrilling finale is the best of the Firebird trilogy, packed with all the agonizing emotion and intense action necessary to bring this multilayered tale to a satisfying ending. Marguerite’s acceptance of her dark side, as well as her willingness to sacrifice herself to save others, makes her a fully developed character that readers can believe in. Fans of Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon’s Doon series will appreciate the attention Gray gives to the details of interdimensional travel crucial to this complicated story.

Trillions of lives depend on Marguerite’s actions as she chases her evil counterpart, Wicked, through many dimensions to save her other selves from certain death. Her concern for Paul, as he suffers the horrific effects of soul splintering, overshadows her focus. She finds herself wondering if they’ll ever be able to have a real life together, free from their responsibilities to the multiverse. But can she count on Paul to help her stabilize the universes? Will their efforts be enough?

I LOVE PAUL AND MARGARITE! this was such a good closure to this trilogy. I felt every emotion. There were things i felt coming and then big twists i didn’t see coming. This made me less mad that the second one left me on a cliffhanger bcs ALL of my remaining questions were answered. I loved this, I will always root for Paul dont get me wrong we love Theo at his core but Paul was everything to me.

I liked the first two books, but this final book was a struggle. Most book seemed repetitive, and I lost interest. Not a bad trilogy, but certainly not a favorite.

The Firebird trilogy has gotten steadily better as it's gone along, and this third novel brings it all home nicely. As befits a series finale, the stakes are higher than ever in this book, and the parallel universe-hopping that's always been a great showcase for author Claudia Gray's creativity feels less like idle sightseeing now that the villains are actively seeking to destroy whole universes (and/or kill off the versions of our heroine Marguerite who live there, which forever shuts her out of traveling back to those worlds). Some of this gets a little hokey, since the bad guys don't exactly have motivations that seem to justify wiping out entire universes, but mostly it's an adrenaline-fueled race to the finish line. The romance angle even takes a back seat to the heroics for once, which may not be to every reader's tastes but came as a relief to me. If you made it through the clunky early chapters of the first book in this series, you should definitely read on to see how it all concludes.

It started out slow, but damn what an ending. It might have been the time of night, but I actually cried a little over the Russiaverse. Lieutenant Markov!

This was a solid trilogy with a very staisfying ending.
