100 Year anniversary of Australian Children's author, Colin Thiele's birth.
Jodie's Journey was Colin Thiele's 38th Children's book.
Themes include Juvenile arthritis, show jumping, resilience and The Ash Wednesday Bushfires, 1983.
Colin Thiele, himself, suffered from arthritis and was requested by a young suffer of Juvenile arthritis to write a novel about it. Jodie's Journey was the result and was first published in 1988. CT had his own doctor check the medical details that were current for the time.
The story is approached with humour, empathy, wisdom with some added suspense.
I'd never read this one before but I knew of it and it wasn't as emotionally heart wrenching for me as an adult as I remember one of his other books about bushfire being when I was a child. February Dragon I remember as a far more distressing novel.

This is one of those books I was forced to read in primary school. I laughed and I cried and this book is just something I would recommend to all kids as it really opens up their eyes to what's going on in peoples lives.
