Beautifully written, poignant, and so very real. I felt like I could truly walk a few miles in Angelou's shoes here, and that is something I find necessary.

Maya Angelou is an American poet that I have a lot of admiration for. Her writing is so vivid and she takes you on a journey with her talented writing style. Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this book and found it a tough read partly due to lack of understanding of the Southern American culture and I also hoped the book was about her whole life vs the first 17 years.
