Harper's prose is like running through acid rain. If anyone could claim to be the true heir of James Ellroy's prose in the "L.A. Quartet," it's probably Harper.

These are violent little stories, almost all with surprising little twists. Like “She Rides Shotgun”, really really good, but not for the faint of heart. Favorites: “Agua Dulce”, “Prove It All Night”, “Lucy In The Pit”, “Playing Dead”, “Like Riding A Moped”.

This collection of shorts was so gritty and satisfying, as well as sad in a weird way. Its also the first collection of short stories where I loved every single one, each with their own personality but in the same setting. I bought Jordan Harper's novel after reading this.
