I listened to this audiobook, how all David Sedaris stories should be experienced — read by the brilliant comedic genius himself.

Anyway, I listened to this on a flight and at one point (among many) I got the church giggles. I was giggling so much that the friendly girl I was sitting next to started giggling too, even though it was impossible for her to know what I found so funny. I guess laughter really is contagious.

Needless-to-say, though I’m going to anyway, I loved it. ♥️

Warning: there are some sensitive topics in this book. Some may find it hard to read. I think it’s the way Sedaris lets himself be vulnerable, but I can see how some people might find it off putting.

There's certainly still room for reflection and pathos here, but with his last few books I'd been concerned that Sedaris was settling in as a grumpy old man, more concerned with disgruntled anger than humor. This book proves that's not the case as it's still full of the weird awkward belly laughs of his I fell in love with in the first place.

Sedaris reflects on the pandemic, the death of his father, and the variety of objects men get stuck in their rectum.
