Picking up this book, it was far different than what I anticipated. What I thought was going to be some kind of dramatic rom-com ending up being something far more sinister.

It was a good read and touched on domestic violence in a way that was very real and raw - the love bombing in the beginning of the relationship, the manipulation and promise of what once was, the repetition of the same horrifying cycle through generations. This is a book about breaking the cycle and moving forward, not allowing a chapter in your life to interfere with your overall story.

The reason why I rate this book a 3/5? It's advertised to be something it's not. In order to make domestic violence a less taboo topic, we have to actually start that conversation head on.

CHEESY. The main topic and story were quite interesting, but oh my, it was just so cheesy. But it's good if you don't want to think to much.

A third of the way through this book I thought this was a typical Colleen Hoover book with 2 characters who would eventually end up together but had some sort of flaw they had to work out. This was not that book. Personally, I didn’t think it was that predictable and that’s why I couldn’t put it down because I really wasn’t sure how it was going to end. I had no idea the main plot was going to be centered around abuse but wow did it open my eyes. I definitely had those same feelings when you see/hear of women in these situations and you think it’s so black and white. It seems simple enough that they should just leave their partner. But it’s not black and white and this book really made me feel all the emotions Lily was going through. I wanted her to leave Ryle but I could also see her staying. It really messed with my head so I can’t even imagine women who are actually going through this. But anyways. Amazing book.
