If you're a mum and are feeling the mum guilt, that you're not enough or just completely overwhelmed by it all, this book is for you! It's normalised absolutely everything my child does on a daily basis!

A thoroughly enjoyable read. Having followed Gi for a number of years online, I was curious to give this one a read despite not being a mother. Giovanna Fletcher has an ease about her writing, and an irrefutable sense of humour and authenticity. I hope I come back to ‘Letters On Motherhood’ when I become a mum.

Giovanna writes an honest account of motherhood so far; her struggles, her highs and her lows. How comments from others can knock a mother’s confidence, how we can praise each other during our own journeys through raising our own children.
I found her letters honest, funny and genuine, expressing how we’ve all felt at one point or another. Giovanna touches on subjects like mum guilt, finding a work/family balance, positive body image and a parents hopes, fears and expectations!

I’m a fan of Giovanna and have followed her on social media, listened to podcasts and read her books for a number of years. But I think I was in a particularly low part of lockdown when I listened to this audiobook so my review might reflect this! ⁣

Poignant and touching. Mostly. ⁣

Some parts felt like I was stepping in on a private conversation the way she directed the majority of the letters to her children. Also because I listened to the author reading the letter in audiobook format. ⁣
In publicity and blurb I’d picked up previous to reading, I thought there were more letters to other people about motherhood. It did feel heavily like I was intruding on (some of the more mundane) moments of her experiences. ⁣
That said, as a mum of boys myself there were other moments, I happily smiled and nodded in reciprocity. ⁣

There were a few niggles that I couldn’t shake. The odd f-bomb here and there felt forced when writing to her kids and dropping in the name of a friends business felt incongruous. And personally, I reckon I could’ve skipped the fanny chapter.⁣

In summary, not as enjoyable as I thought it would be.⁣
