A really terrific audiobook.
An empathetic portrayal of a young Japanese pilot during significant events of WW2 and relating to some historical events that actually happened with a real pilot, Hajime Toyoshima. He was the first Japanese POW captured in Australia and while in the POW camp at Cowra he was an instigator of the Cowra breakout. The Cowra breakout was the largest prison escape of WW2. I had no idea of individuals in the breakout nor the series of events during the breakout before reading this book.
I've been to the site at Cowra, the Japanese burial site and the Japanese gardens and could imagine the setting. It really is a fascinating story.

This was a fantastic book on a period of Australia's history that I didn't know much about - that of the Japanese POW's during WWII in Australia. This is a fascinating fictional account of that period, personalising it through a specific character, Toshi, a Japanese fighter pilot shot down over Darwin.
