The Two-Week Wait is a compassionately written and well drawn graphic story about one couple's experiences with IVF. Due out 4th May 2021 from Scribe Publications, it's 160 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.

This is a touching story written honestly and simply. The emotional toll, stress, expense, and roller-coaster of assisted reproduction (IVF in this case) are represented concisely and with empathy. I can't imagine how difficult it must've been to write this book and collaborate with the artist through the publication process.

The art itself is simple and expressive and supports the story well. The coloring is quite subtle (see cover)e and the text is unobtrusive with good contrast and easy to follow layout.

Four stars. The subject matter might potentially be difficult for readers who are experiencing infertility or pregnancy loss.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

I received this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.

There was a whole bunch of new graphic novels uploaded to NG and this one stood out to me. Not because of personal reasons (no kids for me), but because I was curious about the IVF part, I know some bits and boops but most things I read are clinical, not personal. So I was curious to see how things would go for this couple. Would IVF be the solution for them?

The book starts with showing us the couple, how they met, and how they are trying for a kid. How things aren’t working. How things aren’t go right. How tension rises as they both want a kid. We see the start of examinations and tests. And then the process begins. Finding out more about what is going on. The start of IVF. The start of everything. My heart just broke for this couple, holy crap all the things they have to get through, all the things they learn, but I was also rooting for them, happy that through this way they may have a chance at getting a baby. Man, I was rooting for them so hard. Hoping. Praying.

We see how the process is going (with was both interesting and heartbreaking), see how the mental health is going down, see that finances are crashing, but thankfully both of them have friends and family who they can talk to (and of course they talk to each other). It wasn’t always easy to speak up but I was glad that they had people who supported them, who listened, and many also had their own stories. They definitely needed that support as the process continued and the disappointments piled up.

Though, I can only imagine the pain seeing your friends go through the same process and have luck. It must be a conflicted feeling as well. You are happy for them, but also angry and sad because you didn’t get lucky.

I definitely was feeling emotional while reading this.

(I was provided a copy of this book through netgalley) This was a truly beautiful story, as a woman I’ve heard many instances where people have had to go through IVF but never having anyone close to me go through it left but knowledge on the lacking side. But this book allowed me to the emotions, frustrations and heartache that people may go through when trying for a baby through IVF. I truly felt as if I was stood beside this family through their ups and their downs. This book is very informative about IVF as it allowed me to understand the full process of what people go through during their IVF treatment. Thank you for writing this book and I recommend everyone to read this, in order to see what IVF treatment can be like as I feel like this is a very necessary read.

I also really enjoyed the cute art style in this graphic novel and it truly added to the experience of reading it.

(An eARC of this graphic novel was kindly given to me via NetGalley.)
This was such a quiet and nuanced story of a couple going through the process of IVF treatment. Some passages had me feeling quite emotional and every single doubt, fight and moment of joy was relatable.
There were a few side characters, which I would have liked to have gotten to know better and the dialogue confused me in some panels, the art work, however, I thought was really creative and colours symbols used added to the story and didn't just accompany it.
