Vicious bonds was a mix between a brilliant and creative book that deals with hard topics in a fantasy world to it being a drawn out bore. Hear me out… the grand majority of this book well past chapter 15 was just world building. What things looked like, tasted and smelled like. It was almost like an essay for using your senses. It wasn’t until about 70% in that you really get some action and excitement.
Vakeeli and Earth have a lot in common. Racism, abuse, mafia, social class, depression… The FMC Willow is from Earth and struggles with abandonment and depression. She fears not being good enough to love and for people to want to stay for her and not what she can provide. The MMC Caz is from Valeeki and also suffers from abandonment, depression and has a lot of trauma induced by abuse which results in his sensory issues. Both the FMC and MMC self medicate and drink to deal with their issues. Grumpy sunshine trope-
The MC are connected through a cold tether, which means they are destined to be… they are mates. The FMC falls through a portal to the MMCs world and begin a journey on discovering why they are tethered, why they can hear each others thoughts, help each other realize they aren’t alone and are wanted as well as unleashing hidden secrets about the creation of cold tethers and how to stop mournwrath from hunting them and other cold tethers.
For a romantasy, grumpy/sunshine book we really don’t see much of it until about 80% of the book. You get a lot of the characters trying to ignore their bond and not fall in love to then BAM they are in each others pants physically and telepathically.
