Hoooooo boy did I love this book! This was dark, twisted, surreal at times and just so, so good. I'm glad I read this as an adult because I never would have caught all the glorious nuance had I read it when I was younger. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and had me gasping when things happened to certain characters. It's an interesting study on feral humanity and definitely stands the test of time.

This was a difficult read. Both in the way it’s written, and the disgusting content. I’m not sure why this is known as one of those classic required readings for grade school. It’s graphic and jarring.

There are so many characters who get mentioned so little and have zero development that they begin to merge together, or you’ll find yourself completely forgetting them.

I will say the effects of stress and panic on the main character were written subtly and well enough for the reader to not understand what’s happening to his mind right away. The way these young boys rationalize and comfort each other without letting themselves ask for comfort outright is realistic and sad.

So much is left unexplained in the end. Maybe it’s unsatisfying, maybe it’s effective in leaving you stunned and forcing you to fill in the gaps.

I was compelled to finish it, but I did not enjoy it.

Most upsetting thing I’ve ever read in my life.

I hated it. Sorry not sorry. I don’t agree with whatever statement William Golding was trying to make and I also hate the man.

I don't understand why this book is considered a classic. It's boring, demeaning, and full of nothing but rich white boy problems.
