This is a hard one to get through, if you've had experiences with abuse in the past. I felt Jace and Christian's reactions in my chest. It's terrifying to live that way and deal with the ramifications of domestic violence. I'm glad that Jace was able to realize how he hurt others and found ways to not become like his father. Of course, I wish for more closure in regards to their mom, but that's where this book hits close to home; there isn't always closure when it comes to DV.

This book had me absolutely absorbed from the start till the end! I find the portrayal of the effects abuse can have is especially realistic. The narrator is flawed and sometimes insufferable yet that is the joy of the book, a flawed narrator growing and learning. I did find however I often had to put this book down due to its sometimes graphic imagery and descriptions  so I’d recommend taking that into account,it wouldn’t be for everyone yet it has become one of my few favourite books to date. Seriously so interesting

This book was difficult to read (or listen to on audio book like I did) because of the topic. The author did a good job of accurately portraying domestic violence and it’s effects on children. My main issue with the book was that the teenagers, especially the main character, seemed unrealistic. I found it difficult to believe that the main character was a teen, for he simply did not act like one at all. This made it difficult for me to really get into the story, for I was always questioning Jace’s actions and his interactions with his friends and classmates.
