Wonderful world building! Really enjoyed the subtleties of women being better at magic but still subject to intense sexism and misogyny whilst also having the male character face difficulties because of his gender. Neither underminded the other! didn’t love dar as a character, felt like she needed more fleshing out and some for jake. Ungur and Miss Adams and the dean were everything I wanted though! highly recommend if you want science- magic books without the transphobia/ racism/ anti-semitism that *some* authors apparently can’t write without
Graphic: Death, Violence, Religious bigotry, War, and Injury/Injury detail

Thrilling worldbuilding. It was a little hard keeping a lot of characters apart, particularly Robert's schoolmates at Radcliffe. I also found it odd that basically all wars happened at the same time for the same reasons in this timeline as in ours, even with the concept of empirical philosophy being in place. The magic system reminds me a lot of alchemy in Full Metal Alchemist.
