From the first page, Dragon Princess regales readers with hilarious commentary from the anti-hero of Frank Blackthorne, and contrary to many other dragon-related books, confrontation with the dragon in question is not merely limited to the climax. In fact, it makes up most of the novel. An interesting, albeit not an entirely original, concept forces many humorous moments throughout, however subtle moments of darker humor is also evident. One con of this novel is the fact that there are not many moments in between action, and with every victory, there is another obstacle to take its place. So much does this happen that it almost seems like a collection of short stories. However, with an excellent supporting cast, Dragon Princess is a book that I would read again.

I started thumbing through this book simply to decide if I even wanted to read it, because I was a bit uncertain at first.
I finished this book in two sittings.
I read so attentively, and for so long that I got a headache both times, but I couldn't put Dragon Princess down.
This book is narrated with a sense of humor that doesn't cripple the serious moments, and absolutely works for me. I laughed out loud a few times.
The story is original and it completely captivated me from the first few chapters. It picks up quickly and keeps a steady pace, tumbling from one adventure to the next, still maintaining structure and plot, and somehow it did not feel rushed as it pulled me along.
Despite the off-the-wall nature of the subject material, I thought I knew how this book was going to end.
It completely surprised me.
It's been a while since a book managed to pull the carpet out from under me like that, and it felt amazing.
I'm very, very interested to discover what happens to Frank Blackthorne next,
I am entirely invested in this fun, surprising, twisted fantasy romp and will be reading the second installment as soon as I can get my hands on it.

This was one of those quick reads. By the end, I enjoyed it. I'd probably be up to reading the sequel.
The story focuses on a thief who is cornered by a wizard. The wizard has him rescuing a princess from a dragon... only to figure out the dragon and wizard are part of a con that allows the wizard to switch bodies with the thief and the dragon to switch bodies with the princess. However, the thief discovers what is going to happen and interrupts the spell, causing the princess to end up in the body of the dragon, the thief to end up in the body of the princess, the wizard to end up in the body of the thief and the dragon to end up in the body of the wizard.
While I enjoyed the plot... I had problems with two things:
- Why is it that the woman (er, the thief in the body of the woman) of this story gets threatened by rape every. single. time she encounters someone (a male) on the road. It was nauseating.
- There is also a lack of character development or background development. Then again, it's a quick read.
Honestly, if those things could be fixed then I'd rate it higher. However, it just really brought the story down for me.

Frank Blackthorne is a thief, except his most recent heist goes somewhat awry when the Temple of Natlac is not as empty as he was told... After rescuing the then-virgin, Frank takes a job to rescue a Princess from a dragon so that perhaps he can turn his luck around. But that doesn't go so well either after a spell has some unintended consequences of putting Frank's soul into the princess' body. Hijinks ensue as the thief-turned-princess and princess-turned-dragon search for the Evil Wizard so their souls can be returned to the correct bodies.
The book was as humorous as the cover said it was going to be. I loved the interactions between Frank and Lucille as well as Frank's problems finding himself in the body of a nubile princess. The "bad guys" were delightfully twisted and caused no end of issues for poor Frank. I look forward to a second book.

Hilarious. By no means is it supposed to be taken seriously and it never pretends to be; Dragon Princess has lovable characters, a wild D&D-esque plot and hilarious dialogue. But I was cackling the entire time and loved every moment.
Some might feel the plot is a bit iffy, and I get that, but the author handles it was grace. When the main character Frank, is swapped into the princess’ Lucille’s body, he is confused and respectful. Not obsessive or creepy about the whole thing, mostly just annoyed and motivated to set it right.
Despite it not taking itself seriously, and not taking on heavy content, Dragon Princess was a book I was invested in. I fell in love with the characters, they fit easily into archetypes at first, but become well rounded and individuals as the story goes along. And the side characters never cease to baffle, frustrate and amuse me.

That being said a good portion of the first half of the book is Frank being nervous about every man he encounters while in a female form. Some of it ends up being founded in reality, but it is not explicit and he is never actually hurt. If you’re very sensitive to this, I would proceed with caution. But if you’re like me, uncomfortable but not triggered by that sort of content, you’ll be okay.
It is not supposed to be taken so seriously, and it does a fantastic job. It was a comfy fantasy read, easy before bed and never too emotionally heavy.
If you need a funny, pick me up, comfy fantasy, I would whole heartedly recommend Dragon Princess.
I’ve already gotten the next one, Dragon Thief and can’t wait to start. 😊
