This is one of those rare times I think the movie was actually better than the book. šŸ˜¬ Had a hard time following as I read and I just wasnā€™t very invested. It was interesting to see how the book and movie differā€¦but Iā€™m not sure I wouldā€™ve gone on to watch the movie if I had read the book first.

I think you begin to like Fight Club a lot better when you realize it's a love story, amongst everything else. And what an amazing one it is.

I expected this to be a hard read but boy oh boy did I not expect just how hard of a read it was going to be. The first time I tried reading this I gave up three chapters in because the violent descriptions and the talk of how to make homemade explosives gave me that weird phantom pain in my knees. But this time I pushed forward and got through the whole book. I love the movie, itā€™s one of my favourite movies. But it was far more difficult to actually be in the narratorā€™s head the way you are in a book versus how it is watching it in a movie.

Man some of this was really hard to swallow. I loved it though. It was so brutal but it felt incredibly authentic. My problem with a lot of books this brutal is inauthenticity. This was great.

We are not special.
We are not crap or trash, either.
We just are.
We just are, and what happens just happens.
And God says, ā€œNo, thatā€™s not right.ā€
Yeah. Well. Whatever. You canā€™t teach God anything.
God asks me what I remember.
I remember everything.

the first rule of fight club is that itā€™s not about fight club at all.

it takes about the same time to read this as it does to watch the movie

Itā€™s hard to leave a review for this book without mentioning the movie, and wish Iā€™d read it before I saw it. In knowing the whole story from the beginning, the bookā€™s twist had no impact and left the whole thing feeling anticlimactic. That being said, I really enjoyed the relationship between the narrator and Marla in the book as opposed to the way they portrayed it onscreen. Palahniukā€™s writing style is always somewhat disjointed and his classic ā€œvoiceā€ has become classic because of works like this one. Glad I read it.
