I can just imagine the Senator saying The nerve of that nobody Goodreads reviewer to rate my book with two stars! Or just a classic line like Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. But I remind everyone reading this that in Goodreads, two stars means "It was ok". And I rarely give below three stars to a book. Unless: There is a need to balance the Goodreads ratings.

Maybe I just expected too much from a book entitled "Stupid is Forever" and from an author no less than Senator Miriam Santiago. (Note to self: I will have to read her autobiographies.)

First, about the jokes and one-liners. A couple of them were laugh-out-loud funny. Some were witty sounding but really did not make sense as one-liners. Those from her interviews were the closest to display her true wit and eloquence. The rest might have been picked up from a cheap old joke book. An audiobook would be a good idea.

Second, the speeches included were inspiring, timely and motivating. But they also do not have enough of the "Miriam humor" that the book supposedly tries to represent. I think Lourd de Veyra's collection of speeches was assembled and put together much better.

What I did like very much about the book is the art. Aside from the hip cover, there are also illustrations drawn by contemporary Filipino artists throughout the book.

I have to say that I am not easy to please as a reader when it comes to humorous books. Or maybe, the Senator's punchlines are better watched than merely read?

Good book but not as i expect.

+This is a compilation of her speeches, jokes, pick-up lines delivered or curated by this very famous Filipino public figure. Moreover, It may seem so funny but such hilarity really makes a lot sense. It is a very small book which can be read for about 1-2 hours straight.

+I tend to find this book an eye opener about the reality and ugliness of how politics is being run in the Philippines. And what also fascinated me is that, Sen. Santiago is definitely not afraid to bombard it into the whole world on how she feels about these corrupt politicians, who doesn't have the real compassion and commitment to serve their fellowmen; but were just after their ā€œPolitical Interestā€. She was not giving names, but based from her descriptions, it did give us an idea who they really are.

+Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago never fails to amaze me. With her wisdom and wit, she was able to win the hearts of everyone, especially the youth. We were all in awe on how she can bravely fight corrupt officials, and still finding a way to keep things light with her humor.

+It's a perfect read while waiting during your trip or a good way to spend your break at work or school. Aside from the good laugh, some pressing issues about our politics, economy, and education landscape were also discussed. But you have to read between the lines for it.

+Overall, this book is a good reminder to not take things seriously, and still find the light of things no matter how dark it is.

+and it's kinda disappointing for me,talking about the pick-up lines / jokes already known by almost everybody. Before i read this,i'm expecting a lot about her book, good thing i didn't buy,i just borrowed.LOL oh well,

+a good book, just okay, but not one of my favorites.

:)

Humor is a quality of the many, but only a few can combine humor with wit that can make one laugh so hard, yet engage one's thinking likewise. Miriam Defensor Santiago's latest book is a genuine page-turner that equals the bestselling thriller novels, a hard-to-put-down book whose only inherent misfortune and disappointment is that it's only a slim volume of 130 pages. Make no mistake that it's merely a collection of jokes. Beyond and beneath the apparent comedy are hard punches against corruption in the government that can make any public servant with the slightest tinge of conscience think twice about engaging in shadowy deals. At the core of this book is the soul of a charismatic and passionate Filipino, a public servant, whose only dream is to make the Philippine country something all Filipinos can be proud of.

i wish this was more substantial. sen. miriam gave great speeches. i hope this was more of a compilation of her speeches and essays, rather than jokes and lines.

Good for reading aloud in the car on a long road trip (example: rush hour EDSA... ugh).
