I can see why this series is so popular, I’m totally hooked by the cat and mouse style and the introduction of this new character…

I didn’t like this nearly as much as I liked the first two. I think the plot is getting a little old. I also think the translation went downhill in this volume. The conversations are just a bit stiff and awkward. The quality of the art is consistent and this is still a good series, but I’m a little tired of the intellectual showdown between Light and L. A new character and a new notebook are introduced at the very end, so I will probably pick up volume 4 to see if things turn around.

Amazing, spectacular, showstopper.

I've seen that dude's feet more than I've seen my own family this week though. Like put those grippers away!!!

Light is admitted to University, where he meets L, who reveals his identity, but also says he believes that Light is Kira. Light needs to team up with L to prove his innocence. Meanwhile, there is a broadcast on television with someone pretending to be Kira. Light becomes aware that he has an unknown ally who has sacrificed their lifespan to acquire shinigami eyes, granting the ability to see people’s true names and lifespans. L then invites Light to collaborate with them to thwart the second Kira.

It'd been a while since I read the first two volumes in this series but there was a nice recap at the beginning and past events are mentioned throughout the story in a way that fitted into the story and also rejogged my memory.

This was another fun, fast paced instalment. While I enjoyed some of the plot points and characterisations in this volume more than in the last, there was a lot of repetitiveness that I hadn't noticed previously, which dulled my enjoyment a bit. This came in the form of over-explanations of the characters' rationale and deductive reasoning, which was not necessary and made it seem like the reader was not clever enough to understand one explanation.

Overall, this was a fast, enjoyable read and I look forward to the next volume.
