I will sing the praises of this series from the highest rooftops. Vinland Saga is amazing in every aspect and even if you aren't a huge manga reader, I emplor you to pick it up. Its got fantastic character work, compelling plot lines and incredible artwork.

I feel a bit mixed on this volume. On one hand I really appreciated some of the conversations happening between Hild and Thorfinn and seeing Thorfinn have to directly confront some of his past relationships. I also like seeing the clear care that Yukimura takes in his research, as shown in his volume notes. On the other hand, goofy characters like Thorkell and Garm really undercut the desperate tone of the rest of the story. On a personal level I really do not engage with the battle scenes as well. I also wish that we could get some more direct engagement with King Canute's perspective so he could feel like a true foil to Thorfinn, though I think Floki is providing an interesting outlet for that aspect of the story.

The story in this arc is now picking up and it's going to be interesting where the war is taking us.
