I received Lock In in a Goodreads giveaway and am happy to report that I enjoyed it far more than I expected. Although described as sci-fi, it’s also a great whodunnit with two solid FBI agents leading the charge. I’m not a big sci-fi reader but the idea of lock in syndrome, Hadens, and associated integrators, freeps, and neural networks never seemed too far fetched. It moved as quickly as any police thriller and provided some twists as well as a few laughs. Definitely worth a read!

enjoyed the book but it got a little too technical for me at times, when they were explaining about the codes (it was nothing too difficult, but my brain could not process those words at once). the premise of the book was really interesting and i liked how it tied in with the FBI. but the fact that chris was so good at her job on her first week (which i’m assuming she has no prior experience for) was really surprising…

Why did it take me so long to read this book? (Answer: Male author. I don't read so many of those.) This is a really interesting take on disability. Usually I dislike books about rich kids, but somehow Chris works for me. Maybe because they use their money for good, rather than flaunting it. (Yes, they do some of that too.) I also really enjoyed the novella at the end - I had to check the novella at the end to see when it was published because wow, did Scalzi predict the human behavior around the beginning of Covid.

Felt like it got a bit wordy at parts which was confusing, but the plot was interesting and the characters were fantastic, as usual.

worth buying

I didn't care for the voice the author used at the beginning of the book but it eventually grew on me. It was surprising and the who dunit part wasn't easily guessed. Very imaginative piece.
