This was a very good book. It gives a different view of WWII. It tells the story from the view of a German Woman and the struggles that she had living in Germany during that time. It also flashes to present day and the effect that the war had on her relationship with her daughter and the end of her life

I was a little disappointed in the ending, felt like the climax of the story happened and then the end happened without tying it all together very well. With that said this was a very good read, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys historical fiction!

A difficult read in the reality of the atrocities of war. It's hard to have your head in the sand with the detailed descriptions offered here. The story is compelling, although parts of it were too unresolved for me. Yes, I liked the book very much and would recommend it. I would also offer caution about the descriptions of abuse, murder, torture and sex as those descriptions may not be appropriate for all readers.

This was a free book I got at the Library's sale. It is an unread paperback, and it is a true find. I loved this book, it kept my interest to the end. Every time I read a WWII historical novel I learn something, gain a new perspective and understanding of what people felt and experienced. The ending, wow, I was blown away. The people who save us aren't always who you expect.

microcosm/macrocosm book, where the relationships between good & evil, nazis & civilians, and mothers & daughters are all analyzed. i very much enjoyed it.
