Ocean Vuong is such a gifted wordsmith. Even if I didn't love all of the poems collected here equally, there were many that highlighted how amazing he is at painting a striking image, especially those that focused on topics close to his heart: his love for his mother, his complicated relationship with his father, with being gay, and the many devastations of the Vietnam War.

im marking this as read so i can reach my goodreads goal and i forgot i read it lol.
but i rlly love his unique approach to it (especially the one thats written in footnotes) and i love the enjambment in In Newport (my io was about it) and I really love that you have to take your time and think your way through every deliberate choice (wrote an unused college supplemental about this). vuong is a genius fr

so rich and dreamy
I love the way the language is structured to where you sort of leap from one illustration to the next — but the movements still feel clearly connected to convey something precise and weighted
